The Owls Head trail is an easy walk to a scenic vista of Lake Groton, Kettle Pond and the Green Mountains. Traversing level and moderate terrain, the trail bypasses a swampy area and then climbs to the parking area at the end of Lanesboro Road. The trail to the summit of Owls Head continues to the left, following the rock steps of a path built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s.

I am a blind hiker and this is the hardest trail i have been on since i have lost my vision in january of 2025 it is now the last week of august 2025. This trail was hard for me but i was very happy to make it to the summit to see the fire lookout. we had 3 kids with us 11,5 and 2 year old and they had no problem. PLEASE NOTE USE OW"S HEAD ROAD THERE IS NO FEE THERE. there is a bathroom at the parking area and plenty of room to park.
ALSO NOTE THERE IS NO AT&T CELL SERVICE UNTIL YOU GET CLOSER TO THE SUMMIT>
