Jay Peak is the highest point in northern Vermont and provides extensive views of the northern Champlain Valley to the west, the Northeast Kingdom to the east and Quebec to the north. The Long Trail, which runs from Massachusetts to Quebec, climbs steeply from the parking area on VT-242. Although it is only 1.7 miles to the summit from the road, the hike is quite rigorous. The summit is rocky and open with views in all directions.
Jay Peak Resort provides aerial tram rides to the summit area during the summer months. In the winter, the resort is open for alpine skiing and snowboarding.
The hiking trail to Jay Peak is part of the Long Trail and is in Jay State Forest. For more information, contact:
Green Mountain ClubFrom Enosburg, head east on VT-105 then turn right on V-118. After 7.1 miles, turn left on VT-242. Parking is in a pull-off on the right side of the road after 6.4 miles. The trail to Jay Peak is across the road from the parking area.
