Description

Ahern State Park offers a wide range of trail experiences, with gentle lakeside trails, accessible forest roads, fitness stations, and beginner to advanced mountain bike trails. The majority of trails at Ahern State Park are built and maintained for mountain biking by the Central NH New England Mountain Bike Association (CNH NEMBA).

Accessible Trails: The Fire Road Trail is a 0.9 mile woods road that is approximately 8 feet wide with a well graded crushed stone surface. The trail is gated to motor vehicles and is accessible from both the eastern and western ends via the designated parking areas along Ahern Park Road.

Note: The current trail map posted at Park kiosks and online is no longer up-to-date; the Sunset and Connector Trails have been rerouted.

Trail Tips

Respect Wildlife
Keep your pets under control at all times, to protect both them and wild animals, fragile environments, and the enjoyment of other visitors.

Trailhead Information

From downtown Laconia, head 2.4 miles north on NH-106 and turn left onto Right Way Path, then immediately turn left again at the State Park sign onto Ahern Park Road. Continue 0.7 miles on the dirt road until it ends in a parking area at the shore of Lake Winnisquam. Numerous trails leave from the parking lot in all directions.
