The Sawyer Land nature area covers nearly 140 acres of new growth forest, several streams and vernal pools as well as historic 18th century stonewalls and state boundary marker. The primarily flat 1.5-mile blue-blazed loop is a well-defined old woodlot road from which several red and yellow branch trails emanate. Points of interest are the champion white ash tree, the original 1741 NH/MA state boundary marker, and a deer meadow where there is a good chance of seeing a white-tailed deer. Trails are dog-friendly, so take a walk in the woods with your buddy.
Atkinson Trail Use Guidelines
The Atkinson Conservation Commission was established in 1974 with the mission to provide a focal point within the town for environmental concerns. It is responsible for establishing public use regulations for the Town’s conservation lands and welcomes community volunteers to help maintain its trails. The Town’s trails are for passive recreation only and all motorized vehicles are prohibited on conservation land, including snowmobiles.
Atkinson Conservation CommissionThere are two trailheads; one off Sawyer Avenue, and another off Juniper Lane, both with limited parking.
