Description

Rattlesnake Mountain (1,594') is a small mountain in the Southwestern White Mountains, within the White Mountain National Forest. A relatively short, moderate climb offers open summit views from the ledges looking down on the Baker River Valley.

From the trailhead, the Rattlesnake Mountain Trail quickly climbs 0.9 miles and 800 feet to a trail junction for the summit loop. In either direction, the loop continues 0.4 miles gently uphill to the summit of Rattlesnake Mountain, where views await at the summit ledges. Hikers can follow the loop trail back to the junction, and retrace their steps down the mountain for a total roundtrip of about 2.5 miles.

Trailhead Information

From Interstate 93 in Plymouth, take Exit 26 for NH-25 West. Stay west on NH-25 for 7.3 miles, then turn right onto Main Street for Rumney Village. In 0.7 miles, turn left onto Buffalo Road at the village center. Continue west on Buffalo Road for 2.4 miles, and the Rattlesnake Mountain Trailhead parking will be on your right.

Please note: Off-road trailhead parking is limited to maybe four cars (without snow). The "No Parking" signs along both sides of the road should not be ignored. If the trailhead parking area is full, hikers can use a large parking lot (primarily intended for the rock climbers) 0.25 miles to the southeast of the trailhead.
