Mountain Pond is an aptly named secluded mountain pond above the Mount Washington Valley, with a 2.6 mile loop trail that travels around the pond perimeter. At the far end of the pond is the Mountain Pond Shelter, a lean-to available for overnight use on a first come, first served basis. The trail is located in the town of Chatham within the White Mountain National Forest. From the trailhead off Town Hall Road, the trail travels 0.3 miles to the western edge of Mountain Pond where the 2.0 mile loop trail around the Pond begins. The Mountain Pond Shelter is located 0.6 miles up the trail, traveling clockwise around the north side of the pond.
NOTE: From December to May, Town Hall Road / Forest Road 17 is closed at the gate 3 miles below the Mountain Pond Trailhead, where the road enters the White Mountain National Forest.

Continue up Town Hall Road and continue straight as the paved road turns to dirt, reaching the entrance to the White Mountain National Forest at 3.6 miles. NOTE: From December to May, Town Hall Road / Forest Road 17 is closed beyond this point. For the Mountain Pond Trailhead, continue up Town Hall Road / Forest Road 17 for 3.2 miles, and the trailhead is located on the right.
