Covering just over half a mile, the Laverack Nature Trail offers a peaceful escape into nature just steps from downtown Meredith. The trail begins in Prescott Park and winds through pine and birch woods on a wide, crushed stone path of mostly minimal grades, followed by a 1,450-foot black locust boardwalk along the edge of Hawkins Brook. A viewing platform near the end of the boardwalk offers a look at wetlands filled with cattails, ferns, lily pads, and ducks. The trail also includes an outdoor classroom with benches and stumps for educational programs.
There is limited signage at Prescott Park (the north end of the trail), look for the trailhead tucked behind the tennis courts. Trail users can return along the trail or create a loop by following sidewalks along Route 25 and Route 3 back to the park.
The south end of the trail does not have designated parking or any trail information, but parking is available at various locations in town. Trail users can return along the trail or create a loop by following sidewalks along Route 25 and Route 3 back to the park.
