Description

This network of trails located in the Cunningham Pond Conservation Area and the Goyette Natural Area begins with a 0.4 mile walk on the Peterson Trail to the junction of the Cunningham Pond Loop and the Goyette Loop.

The Cunningham Pond Loop takes you through woodlands, a hemlock grove, and over a stream before veering left at the intersection and ascending to a large field with sweeping views of Pack Monadnock and Temple Mountain. Trees with woodpecker holes, mushrooms, and moss-covered rocks are among the many natural discoveries waiting to be found on this trail. A descent from the field leads to the Carriage Road, which follows the shore of Cunningham Pond for 0.3 miles. Back at the first intersection, a spur trail leads to the Goyette Natural Area.

The Goyette Loop winds through a coniferous forestland, over streams, and can be done as its own walk from Old Mountain Road.

Other Information

A group of Peterborough residents, calling themselves the Cunningham Pond Preservation Alliance, first brought this property to the Monadnock Conservancy's attention in 2017. Apart from the town beach, neither the pond nor the shoreline was protected from development. After an extensive fundraising effort, the Monadnock Conservancy purchased the property in December 2019 , ensuring that the frontage on the pond and the surrounding woods would be forever protected.
