Braintree Mountain Forest provides ample winter recreation opportunities along the Braintree Range. A network of trails crisscrosses the parcel along with two backcountry zones on the eastern flanks of Twin Peaks and Skidoo Mountains.
Please note that there is a private parcel in the middle of the conserved parcel. Do not trespass. Furthermore, please be quiet and respectful in the Quiet Zone on the Haul Road and Haul Road Bypass. See the Ridgeline Collective map for more details.
Please also stay on trail on the Haul Road and Twin Peaks trails, which provide access to the backcountry zones.
Winter Safety: Your Responsibility
Every year people are injured, lost or even die in winter recreation related accidents. This is a remote, unpatrolled area where hidden hazards, changing conditions and varied terrain all affect your safety. Be prepared for a backcountry emergency by carrying enough gear and extra warm clothing to be self-sufficient for an extended period of time. Help can be difficult to summon and there may be a significant delay in receiving emergency assistance. Bring a map and never ski/ride alone. In case of an emergency call 911.
Ski the Trees: Save the Forest
Continued access to this area, or potential additional backcountry areas, depends on you. No vegetation cutting in these areas. The future of additional access opportunities relies on you – respect public and private lands and report incidents immediately.
The Braintree Mountain Forest was donated by Paul Kendall and Sharon Rives to the New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) in 2013. The Ridgeline Outdoor Collective has been collaborating with NEFF to build and manage backcountry glades. For more information, visit the Ridgeline Outdoor Collective website:
New England Forestry FoundationA parking lot and kiosk is located at the intersection of Riford Brook Road and Laroque Road in Braintree. If the parking lot is full when you arrive, do not park along the road shoulder. Additional parking is available at a trailhead 0.7 miles farther south on Riford Brook Road.
