From the trailhead, the trail enters white pine forest and follows a narrow, steep section on pine needles, to a road junction. The trail heads right onto a packed gravel road for 0.25 miles to large open area. There is a sign indicating a left turn off the road. The trail travels through tall grassy vegetation and sometimes mud, then crosses a powerline clearing (with gates on both sides) and continues up the hill. Stay to the right at the fork to travel the loop in the recommended counter-clockwise direction.
The trail starting at the loop is wide and grassy through a hardwood forest. At the top there is short steep section, crossing through small mixed hemlock stand, then eventually reaching the height of land through a nice fern-covered opening. The trail heads left and continues to the top, where there is a spur-trail on the left to a small look out. The main trail continues down from here through hardwood forest, including a very steep descent. Eventually the loop returns to the trail that croses the powerline clearing back to the trailhead, to the right. Note: following the road brings you back down to NH-16 south of the parking lot.
