Description

The Bear Hill Nature Trail at Allis State Park starts from the day-use area and loops approximately one mile through the forest. There are sign posts with numbers that correlate to the Bear Hill Nature Trail Guide, which can be downloaded here or picked up at the park.

The day use area also features a look out tower near the parking area with spectacular views of central Vermont as well as the Green Mountains to the west and the White Mountains to the east. There is a picnic pavilion with accessible bathrooms, which can be accessed by an accessible pathway from the lower parking lot.

Other Information

Allis State Park was donated to the state by Wallace Allis to be developed as a campground and recreational area. The Civilian Conservation Corps developed the park in the 1930's. Since then, there have been improvements and changes in operation.

There is also a campground at Allis State Park with 18 tent/RV sites and 8 lean-tos as well as a group camping site.

The campground is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. Day use hours are 10 AM - sunset during the open season.

To visit the trail in the off-season, you have to park outside the gate and walk in making for a longer hike than in the summer.
