Perched at the southern edge of the White Mountain National Forest, Stinson Mountain (2,900') is a relatively short climb to open summit ledges with views of the Baker River Valley, Stinson Lake, and the high peaks of the White Mountains beyond. The 1.8 mile Stinson Mountain Trail begins to climb gradually from the trailhead, and at 0.4 miles crosses a logging road. At 0.9 miles, the trail joins the old Stinson Mountain Fire Road which is used as a snowmobile trail to the summit in winter. The trail continues up the fire road for 0.1 miles before turning right off the road and returning to singletrack. The trail climbs more steeply the remaining 0.8 miles to the summit where the fire road rejoins the trail and evidence of the old fire tower is visible at the open ledges. From the summit, a spur trail leads 80 yards southwest to a view over Stinson Lake.
