Description

The Old Town Center trail is a short path connecting the current center of Cabot Village to Menard Road by way of the historic Old Town Center. In continuous use for over 200 years, the route passes through the former center of Cabot which includes the 1790 Burying Ground and foundation stones for the Center Pound where stray livestock were housed.

From its west end in the village, the route climbs steeply through a hayfield, and then crosses a brook on a VAST trail bridge before connecting to a woods road. The woods road continues climbing through mixed forest before gradually flattening out as it approaches the Old Town Center site. The route continues along a hayfield on Old Center Road (Class 4) and ends where Old Center Road meets Danville Hill Road.

Other Information

  • The Willey Building trailhead is easily accessible to all village amenities, including a Level 2 EV charging station, grocery store, hardware store, and bar.
  • The route includes a seasonal poetry walk contributed by Cabot School students who shared original works inspired by the trail.
  • The lower sections of the trail may become muddy during late winter and early spring. Please stay off the trail during this time.
  • The trail section between the Old Town Center site and the village is closed during deer rifle season (mid-November to early December).
  • Portions of the trail are shared with the VAST trail in the winter so you may encounter some snowmobile traffic.
