The site offers evidence of its hill farming heritage and expansive views of the Shepard Brook valley, rolling hills of Fayston, Northfield Range, and Green Mountains. Sitting within a state-significant Northern Hardwood Forest block, it provides cover, food, and water supporting a variety of wildlife, from larger mammals to tiny pollinators. Wild turkeys and ruffed grouse forage in its forested seeps and apple trees, butterflies flutter in the old fields, amphibians reproduce in several vernal pools, and native flora flourish. A conservation easement ensures the protection of natural resources and permanent public access.
The gentle hike on the Boyce Hill Trail to the observation point is 0.6 miles, with an elevation gain of 350’. The Nature Trail, Somerville Trail, and a loop around the pond provide addition opportunities for exploration.
