Description

Located on Mill Street, this trail system stretches from the Piscataquog River's edge up the hill to the Town Cemetery.

You may enjoy a picnic on the flat stretch of riverbank or walk along the trail from the granite gate posts to the footbridge near the end of the property along the river. A hike to the top will reward you with views of the village and may even treat you to signs of deer.

The site of the Saltmarsh/Friedrich Ice House abuts the picnic area. Only the foundation of the icehouse remains, and has been sand-filled.

The area is open to foot traffic only.

Other Information

The original 13-acre parcel was purchased in 1991 by the Town using matching funds from the State's LCIP program. An additional 3 acres was donated to the Town in 2015 to allow for the trail to continue further along the River. There is a citizen-donated footbridge that crosses the South Branch of the Piscataquog River to connect to the Whipple Free Library trails.

The second grade students at the Central School raised the money to provide picnic tables and other amenities for the picnic area.
