Howard Swain Memorial Forest - Southeast Land Trust of NH

The Howard Swain Memorial Forest is an easily hiked short loop trail through woodland and wetland habitats, including a short spur trail which offers a beautiful view of Dead Pond and Pawtuckaway State Park.

Description

A fairly short loop trail about 1 mile in length that passes boulder features, rock walls, and many wetland habitats. There are some good views from the loop, but a short walk down a spur trail heading Southwest leads to an open scenic area offering an excellent view of Pawtuckaway State Park cliffs and Dead Pond. with only a few steep hills and narrow walk ways, this trail can be walked by almost anyone. With great views and a gradual gradient, this trail is perfect for people of all skill levels.

Trailhead Information

From NH-152 turn onto Flutter Street and then a right at Deerfield Road. Follow Deerfield Road for approximately 3 miles, entrance to parking area will be on your left. (If you pass power lines you've gone too far)

From NH-156 heading north turn onto Deerfield Road and follow for approximately 3 miles, entrance to parking area will be on your left. (If you pass power lines you've gone too far)

From North Road, turn onto Nottingham Road and follow for approximately 3 miles, the entrance to the parking area will be on your right.

The entrance to trail parking is easy to miss, and consists of a small dirt road directly off of Nottingham Road where a "Howard Swain Memorial Forest" sign is set about 30 feet back from the entrance. This sign is most easily viewed if you're driving west down Nottingham Road.
